Pop your pills and pay the bills

They say work a 9 to 5 to have a secure future and then raise a family.
I praise anyone who manages this.
However, for the rest of us mere mortals, it’s different.

When times get tough, time to toughen up and tighten up the budget.
The stress building up, skyscraper high.
Times are so tough you’re just scraping by.
Questions like, “Money is tight. How do I get this right?”

So, pop your pills and pay the bills.
Work at any job to scrape by.
Say goodbye to your family since 2 jobs might not be enough.

Day and night, the bills pile up all the way to the sky.
A cycle of pill popping till you get an accidental high.
To the point of seeing stars.
Thoughts of “why me?”
Arms outstretched, reaching towards the universe.
Begging, “take me now!”
The universe responds, “you can’t make me since your time isn’t done!”

Times of trials and tribulations.
To help you get tough.
Since everything is getting rough.
Tough as a piece of well-done steak.
Chew, chew, chew.
Liquid courage is needed to gobble it down.
Gulp, gulp, gulp.
Rough patches that make you want to scream until everything passes.
As if all of this was a dream.

Why not eat your sorrow from fears of tomorrow away with some cake made of ice cream?
Till your belly is full and thoughts of an empty wallet linger.
Thoughts such as “when will I get a cheap deal for my next meal?”
Since times are tough and economic circumstances are rough.

So, pray to whoever you believe in.
Then, once again, pop your pills and pay the bills.
