Environmental scientist and maybe a poet. I suspect like most people on here I have an urge to write. I've been much buoyed by kind words and likes over the years on this site, despite been in the weeds and not writing for the past few. Now I have my head above the water I can hear my muse again. Thank you kindly for stopping by. I love reading work by others at all stages of their writing journey. Bon Voyage!

John Yau (born 1950) is an American poet and critic who lives in New York City. He received his B.A. from Bard College in 1972 and his M.F.A. from Brooklyn College in 1978. He has published over 50 books of poetry, artists' books, fiction, and art criticism. According to Matthew Rohrer's profile on Yau from Poets & Writers Magazine, Yau's parents settled in Boston after emigrating from China in 1949. His father was a bookkeeper. Yau characterizes his father as an outsider - "My father was half English and half Chinese [...] so he never fit in." As a child Yau was friends with the son of the Chinese-born abstract painter John Way. By the late 1960s Yau was exposed to, "a lot of anti-war poetry readings in Boston [and] so I'd heard Robert Bly, Denise Levertov, Galway Kinnell, people like that. I don't know - Robert Kelly (poet) just seemed a different kind of poet. Mysterious, in a way. He was interested in the occult, in gnosticism and abstract art - things that had a particular appeal to me." According to Rohrer, Yau's decision to attend Bard College was motivated by his admiration of Kelly. Yau's most recent books are Exhibits (Letter Machine Editions, 2010), A Thing Among Things: The Art of Jasper Johns (Distributed Art Publishers, 2009), and The Passionate Spectator: Essays on Art and Poetry (University of Michigan Press, 2006). His collections of poetry include Paradiso Diaspora (Penguin, 2006), Ing Grish, with Paintings by Thomas Nozkowski (Saturnalia, 2005),Borrowed Love Poems (Penguin, 2002), Forbidden Entries (Black Sparrow, 1996), Berlin Diptychon with Photographs by Bill Barrette (Timken, 1995), Edificio Sayonara (Black Sparrow, 1992),Corpse and Mirror (Holt & Rinehardt, 1983), a National Poetry Series book selected by John Ashbery, and Broken Off by The Music (Burning Deck, 1981). Artists' books include projects with Squeak Carnwath, Richard Tuttle, Norbert Prangenberg, Hanns Schimannsky, Archie Rand, Norman Bluhm, Pat Steir, Suzanne McClelland, Robert Therrien, Leiko Ikemura, and Jürgen Partenheimer (a.o.), his books of art criticism include The United States of Jasper Johns (1996) and In the Realm of Appearances: The Art of Andy Warhol (1993). He has also edited Fetish (1998), a fiction anthology. Yau has been the Arts editor of The Brooklyn Rail since March 2004. He also runs a small press, Black Square Editions, which publishes translations, poetry, and fiction. Yau currently teaches art criticism at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. Hi, My name is Amanda Joannevaeh Steinbrecher. Everyone calls me Lady J. I am 27 years old. I have two children, a nine year old son named Shayn Azriel and a three year old daughter named Nacirema Jillian. I used to be very shy and timid. I would hide all of my poetry, so no one would see my true feelings and emotions. I have been writing poetry for as long as I can remember. In second grade I won an Echoes Theatre Award for my writing, and the awards, certificates, and recognitions have continued consistently on in my life. Poetry is my greatest outlet to express myself. I ahve always used poetry as my escape from pain, and always go back to re read everything I write to see where I have been in the past emotionally and mentally, and to stay update reading how far I have come. Some of my poetry will make you sad, or be sensitive to some readers, so I ask that you read at your own risk. Other pieces I have written are very motivatioanl and inspirational. I hope and pray that through my poetry I can help inspire others who may have faced some of the same struggles I have myself. I pray everyone on here with be abundantly bless with joy, peace, harmony, happiness, laughter, and Love. God Bless You All !! Sincerely, <3 Lady J. <3

Born March, 15th, 1968 in a small town called Gettysburg, South Dakota. My father was in the United States Air Force, so during my early childhood we moved a lot. South Dakota, Montana, Texas; but my home is in West Virginia. I hated school and rarely went to class during my high school years. I was a contributing writer to my high school newspaper, a member of the Psychology Club and that's about all I remember during those years. I had few friends and I dropped out of high school during my senior year. Much of that had to do with my mother more than my disdain for going to school. I later went to college to study English Literature, dropped out, and went back several years later to study Psychology and Psychiatric Rehabilitation. I've written for several Mental Health Journals and Newsletters and hosted conferences and seminars on various mental health issues. I have kept a diary since I was nine years old and journals as I got older. I have tons of spiral notebooks of short stories I wrote during those formative years and it wasn't until adulthood that I started writing poetry. I can not say for certain that my poems are any good. But I thought I would put it out there. If nothing else, it makes me feel better. :)
I've always been creative since I was a little girl. I would write poems, song lyrics, create things, draw, color and sing. My imagination was always big and vivid. As I got older I started to write short stories and even went to college to get a degree in creative writing. Well I ended up becoming a hairstylist which I love doing so much. I decided that writing was a hobby for me, a way to escape and release and I love it. I'm happy that I can be on here to share my talent with the world.
Been through a lot of things in my life. May be young, but yet old at heart. I have lived life to last me a while, and I am just tired and worn. I go through life and help other people, and than they leave. I am content with who I am and where I am, even when they leave. But at least I know I am still here, and that I did some good.
Writing is an escape for me. I once buried this talent, but in recent years have discovered it again. I'm glad to have found a community of poets. Writing is so freeing, even when the words are a jumbled mess. I often pair a poem with a drawing to manifest the words. My motto is "Words can create pictures; pictures can create a loss of words." I want to inspire people. I want to make people think from a different perspective; make them uncomfortable. It's a tool i use, not only to express myself, but also to help others. That's the biggest joy writing has given me. Everyday I strive to get better, in writing and in life.
Born in the Bronx, raised in Vegas family is from Dominican Republic. I move every year within/out of the state that I'm living at that time. I'm currently in Florida, graduated from Lincoln Culinary Institute. I started writing poetry when I was really young as a way to take out my anger out on something due to i was bullied everyday because I didn't know how to defend myself. Soon my poems became more about love than they did about hating and the pain that i withhold inside of me. These days it seems that I don't write poems as much as I want too due to the lack of inspiration, but recently I have found a new inspiration to fuel these hand & hopes that one day, just one day her & I can have something so profound as the thing called love. One thing that i truly desire the most .
