At the End of the Day

the crests of the wavelets shimmer
in the late afternoon sun
momentarily blinding her
as she gazed into the horizon
the crimson disk
about to sink behind the western hills
the day’s over
she shivers anticipating nighttime chills
red, orange and yellow clouds
congregate in the skyline
the darker ones atop,
and reflections making the ocean shine
the breathtaking scene
a shrine to His majestic creation
sadly she sat morose, feeling forsaken
whilst deep in meditation
earlier that day she reveled
at the snow-capped mountain
the clear cerulean sky
and the white sailboat in the blue ocean
the tree lined hills behind her
and the soaring birds of prey
but soon they will be no more
for it is the end of the day
she audits her life, knowing well
that her prime years are over
and her life much like today,
as incipient nightfall draws closer
the remarkable events in her life
will be faint memories
remembrances will fade,
just like leaves floating in the breeze
darkness envelops everything
when day’s over and turns to night
a sibilant hush in the air
as all the creatures vanish from sight
but behold the luminous silvery moon
rises from the darkened hills
soothing the ebony world,
with a promise of more thrills
soon stars start to travel
north to south in the night sky
venus and mars, betelgeuse,
points of light from on high
and the leaves rustle
when touched by the evening breeze
while crickets herald new wonders
from atop the tall trees
she smiles as she realizes finally
that dusk is not the end!
aye! fantasies, thrills and mysteries
from the heavens descend
long after the sun has set,
even into the midnight hours
magical moonlit walks
interrupted by refreshing showers!
twilight years not to be feared
but welcomed like a bouquet of flowers
