Remembering

I close my eyes to surrender to the blissful blackness of sleep,
but instead get bombarded by images hidden deep.
Your smile flashes at me from the recesses of my mind.
Your laughter bubbles out,
and it’s like I’ve gone back in time.
I try to break the surface, but the memories pull me back.
I don’t want to remember but then I see your face.
Laughing at me as I stand there.
The cruelty in your eyes, can’t be mistaken.
I knew it was wrong, but I wanted to be cool.
I wanted to be a part of something new.
So I stood there.
Naked.
While you and your friends laughed as my innocence was darkened.
You didn’t touch me,
but the look in your eyes was enough to haunt me.
I was a child.
I was naive.
And you let me be.
