I started my day in the street of the slum
When my memories are destroyed by war
And my dreams are shattered by struggles
I woke up to the sounds of early morning birds

And all I could see is the shivering of the dinner table
Smiles of the hungry plates
Brightness of the lanky glasses
The sadness of the unused spoons
And the tears from the broken pots

I watched in dismayed
As I sipped a glass of water
And ended my day on an empty stomach

(2013)

Poem tells the story of a young boy who grew up in a poor neighborhood and hardship. Now that he is older and found himself living a better life in another country, he reminisce one morning on a bowl of cheerios as he relive his memories from his native homeland (Liberia).

Nice idea! Maybe we all should do that more often.

Short but deep poem. Just what I like. Might wanna check the grammar unless ya did that by purpose though.
