Desire

I met you yesterday. You seemed perfectly normal.
Just a little angry and dramatic. But I happen to like that.
Today I learn you suffer. And I visit you in the hospital.
You are not injured or confined to a bed.
You are confined by your own mind, which tells you things.
Sometimes beautiful and genius.
But sometimes it tells you lies and illusions
And these lies and illusions make you sad.
And you think there’s a reason for your sadness.
I wish to fix you with a kiss. But I recognize I can’t.
You believe for a moment I could, but you know
That is a lie too.
Then you get out. And you want it, dream about it,
Obsess about it and go mad for it.
And I succumb to make you happy.
And then you get it and you lose your mind.
Because it’s not what you wanted, what you expected
What you thought would shake your world.
You realize that the illusion and dream of it
Was sweeter than the reality will ever be.
And that destroys you. You push me away.
You can’t handle it.
My issues come out. My own little madness.
And you don’t want to deal with it.
I’ve got my own, you say, I live for the day.
