Let me tell you a story 'bout a girl who was merely sixteen
So much beauty that the world has never seen
Sure she was pretty, her eyes like the sea
Blond hair made the boys turn
but thats not who she wanted to be

She was a butterfly
that couldn’t see how brightly she shined
so she closed her wings
and hid from the world
her beautiful mind, her beautiful mind

Grew up in a small town
just a young girl with oh so many dreams
moved to the city
just in time for 9th grade
everything changed,  oh everything changed

All she wanted was friends
did anything to fit in
hung around the older kids
everyone warned you
but you gave in, you gave in

Came home each night
and cried to herself
never felt so empty,
so alone
wishing she could be someone else

She was a butterfly
that couldn’t see how brightly she shined
so she closed her wings
and hid from the world
her beautiful mind, her beautiful mind

By junior year she smarted up
but it was already too late
her reputation was set
they thought they knew her
but it was fake, it was fake

When will she realize
the power she holds
she could change the world
with her words alone
but instead her wings she folds

She is a butterfly
that can’t see how brightly she shines
so she closes her wings
and hides from the world
her beautiful mind, her beautiful mind
