Life is a Race

Life is a NASCAR race,
plenty of cautions,
telling you to take it easy,
slow it down,
and the green flag
tells you to take it
one lap, one day
at a time,
the red flag,
saying it’s time to stop,
and get some rest
and the checkered flag
will fly in the air
on the day you die,
the older and more experienced
will try to gain speed
so they can lap you
but in the end,
everyone will finish the race
eventually.

(2015)

I had to write an extended metaphor poem for English class. I saw posts on Facebook and Twitter about auto racing/NASCAR and this just happened.
