A Story (Part 1)

He was a new friend,
And he had smiling face,
So she welcomed him with open arms,
She welcomed him with grace.

She let him come near,
He knew everything there was to know,
She had no reason to be scared,
No reason to hide what she could show.

Her heart was an open book,
And he listened to her speak,
Was he planning all along,
To leave her broken at his feet?

She was alone and vulnerable,
And now it was too late,
He turned his back on her,
And she was blinded by his hate.

Her heart was still open,
With nothing left to find,
She began to lay down the foundation,
To a wall she’d hide behind.

She did not want the wall there,
But she loved it all the same,
She knew that it would keep her,
Protected from the pain.

With every lie they told,
And every dream they stole,
A brick was added to the wall,
Another tear in a heart once whole.

War was raging within her,
But no one was concerned,
They just kept adding bricks,
To the wall that she had formed.

After time spent searching,
The wall was built so high,
That no one could see what,
She was hiding on the other side.

Even she, desperate and alone,
Was locked out by her own wall,
She was tired from all of their cruelty,
And the wall was built too tall.

She began to lose herself,
She forgot who she had once been,
She lost her hope for happiness,
And began her love of sin.

She tore, she cut, and she cried,
She was terrified and numb,
But she loved the way it freed her,
From the pain her life had become.

She began to give up,
On this stupid thing called life,
She was so done with the pain,
And she wasn’t satisfied with the knife.

She held her head high,
Her “friends” thought she was happy,
But the prayer she said every night,
Was to escape from her reality.

She thought her life was over,
The pretending was too hard,
She just wanted to end it,
End life, broken and scarred.

She asked God for something,
A sign that she could live,
A reason to keep going,
She didn’t know what He would give.

And then she saw you.
