Age is But a Number

Don’t tell me that you’re sorry,
Don’t tell me that you care,
Don’t tell me that you understand,
You’re completely unaware.

Don’t even pretend,
You know how I feel.
All pain is different,
But at least this pain is real.

Why is it that you can complain?
You can drone on and on,
But when I speak out,
There is nothing wrong?

You look at me,
With cold pity in your eyes,
None of it is real,
Just a mask for your lies.

Your smile so degrading,
Your laugh so full of pride.
But now that you’re gone,
To whom do I confide?

“You’re too young to understand,”
Well, what on earth do you know?
What is all of this for?
Are you doing it for show?

You may be impressing them,
But you’re losing my respect,
This has all happened before,
So what else did I expect?

You’re leaving, now, too,
But you’re here enough,
Here enough to be “here,”
But “enough” isn’t really ever enough.
