"My Flower"

She had learned to live without water,
the little flower in the pot,
Her petals were slightly wilted,
but she did not need a drop.

She may not have been perfect,
but she could last on her own.
Without someone there to help her,
Her soil was dry as a bone.

There was a boy nearby,
And one day as he passed,
He stopped to see the flower,
and saw her petals fading fast.

The little flower just smiled,
and said, “I don’t need any water,”
But he knew she wouldn’t last,
so he made her an offer.

“I’ll water you, my flower,
I’ll help you grow so strong,
I’ll bring a watering can full of
what you’ve needed all along.”

The water overcame her,
consuming and cold,
and such relief flooded through her,
her petals grew strong and bold.

The boy picked up the pot,
and carried the little flower,
and promised her he’d care for her,
and he'd always give her water.

She was happy with the boy,
The little flower had a friend,
He cared for her and watered her,
And on him she could depend.

But as he was walking,
with her firmly in his grip,
the sky began to crack,
And the storm began to rip.

The boy looked at the sky,
and set the flower down,
Under a tree on the path,
he ran back toward his house.

He faded in the distance,
And disappeared from sight,
The flower waited patiently,
Long into the night.

The wind was blowing hard,
and the little flower wondered,
if her boy was coming back,
if she would be watered.

Rain began to fall hard,
but she was under the tree,
she just watched the water fall...
“Where could my friend be?”

The rain stopped,
A few days passed,
and the little flower now knew,
that the boy was not coming back.

The sun was shining,
It was too hot for the flower,
She missed the boy,
And she missed the water.

Her petals were wilted and fading,
And the tree kept her dry,
And the last drop of water,
fell from her eyes.
