Untitled

I’m slipping in and out of sleep,
With your hand resting gently on mine,
I try to memorize the lines of your palm,
Because we’re running out of time.

Your half-closed lids flutter,
And you gently touch my blushing face,
You open your arms,
As I fall into your embrace.

I close my eyes against your chest,
And match my breathing to yours,
I never want to leave this moment,
I’ve never felt this way before.

I steal a glance at you,
The moonlight shining against your face,
I look down at our hands,
And hear the nearby cars race.

Your heart beats against me,
As steady as each breath you take,
And I laugh at my mine,
Fluttering with every move you make.

Still asleep, you sigh quietly,
I can’t help but smile,
As you move your fingertips in my hair,
During our last few miles.

I don’t want to move from your arms,
Or be apart from your side,
Because I know I’m going to miss you,
As soon as we say goodbye.

I close my eyes and hold my breath,
Because I know goodbyes are hard to say,
I want to hold on to this moment,
And by your side I want to stay.

But with every painful goodbye,
I can look forward to next time,
Because I just want to hold you close,
And keep your heart in time with mine.

I want to tell you today and always,
And with everything I am and do,
My knight, my love, my Peter dear,
I love you.
