Plain Old Jane

What do you see when you see me
Am I your average, non-specific girl
Do your eyes glance past me, or ignore the fact that I’m a piece of this melancholy world
Am I a shadow in your nightfall
A regular drop amongst your spring rains
Can you see what really defines me
Or am I just your plain, old Jane

What do you feel when you’re near me
Am I a nuisance that you wish were gone
Do you feel the greatness that flows within me, or hear the beat of my desperate heart’s song
Am I a figure in your patterned painting
A leftover square in your tired puzzle game
Can you see what really defines me
Or am I just your plain, old Jane
