Letter From War III

Dear Lucy,

Life for me has not been a walk in the park
I went to war cos I needed to stay alive for my country
Or rather To serve my country, in reverse
And you said you understood my decisions

I know you rather that I stayed home
Taking the pathway of least resistance,
Be a miner, light the candle at dinner
And  be in bed before midnight

I hear my friend comes to the house, Richard
Almost often, than usual
That you forget to mow the lawn or water the flowers
Sometimes, even weeds have overgrown the orchard

My grandmother said you’re having an affair
I can feel it in the air
That you’re blown away by the wind
And now you’ve stopped writing me
