(2014)
After hearing a favorite song and remembering a difficult time, a poem came out
What is truth? It’s a changing sky, One day clear, The next, cloudy, Holding the blue and grey,
Cold spring rain chills my body And yet, the birds fly in unison As if, it is a sunny day. The white tail deer Bounce through the ravine
An owl hoots on this cool, crisp Spring night. A sound that’s distant yet echos
In the blink of an eye It’s a different scene On the big movie screen So easy to get absorbed In the story line of time.
There is my shadow, A dark outline of this body And yet, it also holds, The hidden imperfections Of my existence.
As we shared stories, The warm hum of voices heard, A cup of love spilled.
Time passing by now In a blink of the eye, In the clap of a hand, In the chirp of a bird, In a flash of light
Twilight slides in quietly as birds fly to warm nests. Pink hues of evening reflect in the clouds. Soon the moon
Unable to be all things For all people, Perhaps at one time, I tried. Those days are
My spirit communes with the four directions: To the north are in-laws, our aging mother, her last
Red and gold leaves Falling, Sing to me Of the season of change, Before the snow,
Lately, a sadness pervades, I mourn for youth, perhaps passion of younger days. With age, some of that passion
If we could embrace our sorrow and surf on our tears, surely our hearts would grow wider to hold the years
I remember your smile, your laugh,… you gave so freely. It’s hard that you are gone. I sigh and walk along the bay.
Life is like a dream A star studded sky A blink of an eye Oh, how life slips by. Life is like a song
