Side by Side

Walking on the beach
of long ago,
the constant roll
of the gulf,
it’s sound, like a lullaby.

Sandpipers running
along the shore,
busy with long beaks
that hunt for food.

A Heron diving
then landing,
on a rock,
to stretch it’s wings
and dry, in the sun.

Pelicans on the pier
with white
and brown heads,
side by side,
watch the people go by.
