THE ENEMY IS INVISIBLE

To my own community whose ills
are a microcosm of the ills of all humanity.

Some see the gloom
I can see the doom
We are in a slippery slope
How are the children to cope?

The writing is on the wall
The few noble Steps stumble and fall
Where is the wisdom of brave women?
Where is the valor of wise men?

Must we continue to acquiesce
To lethargy and mindlessness?
Act now or it may be too late
All hell break loose in our own gate.

I must be counter-culture
Eyes only on the children’s future
I need not see the sweet fruits
Of my seemingly futile pursuits

I’ve lived long enough to see:
The steady breakdown of decency
The moral decadence in society
Us prisoners masquerading as free

Let’s open our eyes dear brethren
To the misery of the downtrodden
This is the vilest protracted battle
Dumb we’re made to struggle

The aggressor is the worst aggrieved
Oblivious we! all too often deceived
We do not fight wicked people
The true enemy is invisible!

NAB Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.
