It’s been
a lovely bit of defiance that I set you free
you were only
but a gift horse to me
held my tongue
pain-staked the years
you were ever
a brassy little dictator, my dear

what never were enemies
that shared no blood?
crisis of closeness
when the winter comes
cant sound the heart strings
plucked at arms length
the economy of war between
fall tree and rake
