Beauty Barometer
I’ve just been informed a device has been
discovered that might accurately measure the depth of
beauty’s genuity.
An initial investigation reveals it serves
as its own internal driving force.
A self sustaining catalyst found
deep within everyone.
Further research suggests a congenital condition,
inclining one to calculate beauty,
based on its ability to interpret
vibrational variables
of interacting energy,
upon introduction.
Although it cannot be seen, this mechanism
is found immersed and condensed within
the subject’s core, hidden beneath exterior,
crossing three dimensions
through the heart.
However, its ultimate design is riddled with glitches
and terribly flawed. Major malfunctions
often occur within close proximity to flesh,
seeming to short-circuit the mainframe.
Causing an internal crash and,
coincidentally,
erasing vital programs.
Fail-safe instincts trigger back-up tactics
of a system specifically structured
to calculate sensory input
that’s received as synaptic signals within the brain.
Causing easy miscalculation of
Beauty’s universal equation.
The study reached its conclusion upon determining
that beauty is, in fact, only skin deep; originating
from just below the flesh. It’s noted, in rare instances,
that this beauty acts as a sort of
cosmic epoxy that permanently joins skin
with spirit and adheres one to the other,
forcing both to coexist in harmony...
This is a very rare beauty, indeed...

This creation was sparked by yet another challenge from yet another fellow poet. I was to write a poem with the internal theme of the old saying, "beauty is only skin deep." I chose to verse it freely and I thought it would be fun to write it as though it were actual scientific documentation... Especially considering that science and poetry could be compared to oil and water... I wanted to see if they would mix.
