The Assault

Can time erase the shame?
Can it take away the blame?
As years pass by will it hurt less?
As years pass by will you once again caress?
Her with your loving tender touch
Will you ever love her again as much?
As you did before the assault
Do you believe it wasn’t her fault?
Is she able to hide the pain from you?
Or when you see her do you look right through
To the place where self– hatred lies
Can you hear her screaming cries?
As she relives in silence the physical acts
Going over and over all of the facts
Of the day he let loose his sexual rage
Turning a young woman into a bitter sage
What wisdom would she render from sexual violence?
She’s pondered this for years in shameful silence
Never finding the reason on which to cling
They say “there is a reason for everything?”
Not time alone can erase the shame
Not time alone can take away the blame
As years pass by the pain is further from reach
As years pass by forgiveness is there to teach
Her to move away from a place in her mind
That imprisons her and with painful shackles bind

Her to a life of fear and doubt
Wanting but unable to shout!
As years pass by will it hurt less?
As years pass by will you once again caress?
Her with your loving tender touch
Will you ever love her again as much?
