The Forest Fire Within

It shines in the light,
Even as it’s dark.

It’s soft as silk,
Yet hard and unforgiving.

It’s cold to the touch,
Although your skin is hot.

It could end everything.
And yet, you’re not.

It shines your reflection up to your face.
This is the last thing you want to embrace.

The tears drip down,
Slowly, like rain.

You click the blade shut,
And start to spiral again.

The silver, it shines,
Almost like a promise.

Not to make it end,
But to make you be honest.

You yearn to feel anything.
Anything at all.

And the chill of the blade
Clears your mind of it all.

Sometimes that chill is enough.
Enough to feel again.

But it’s only a drop of rain, to the forest fire within.
