Itch-in To Go

Yesterday, I heard Greatness calling.
But it was actually asking, “Who are you?!?”
I thought for sure my star was rising
But it was held to the earth by mortal glue.
The glue is a blending of wanton lies
And mixed with irrational wistful need
It seldom fails when self applied
And sticks according to greed.

So I drudged along on my arduous road
Just waiting for the end to find me.
I tried my best to help it along
But that wasn’t meant to be.
Then I concluded, “I have an unfinished task!”
The vague particulars I do not know.
But whatever it is,— I hope it is soon
‘cause my soul has an itch-in to go.
