Arson

I dreamt last night of sex and magic
Nothing romantic or sweet
Sweat and fire and wetness and noise
Pain and violence without anger or fear
I woke without consciousness
Dreaming clinging cloyingly to me, pulling me
Back into the mind’s respite
Hard and hoarse I lay there in the stillness
and let the lights behind my eyes paint the dark

As my body relaxes
I can sort out the sounds gnawing at my mind
The rustle of the sheets as my wife shifts slightly
The whir of the ceiling mfan
The caress of the breeze on exposed skin
Satisfied, I sink again into oblivion
