Like Fallen Leaves

Looming trees shadow around me,
And a gust of blistering wind tousles my
Long unkempt hair about my muddy,
Tear-stained face. Decaying and sodden
Fall leaves entomb the somber soil
At my barren, cold feet. Oh, why
Do the bleak heavens above boil?
And bury the sweet, shining dawn
From me, in my utmost agony?
A fervent chill whips up my
Spine; I heed the mourning rhapsody
Of bitter loneliness throb and broaden
In me and consume my rotting soul.
Knees bent and head down, I cry
To the Lord above, to console
Me, help me, for I have fallen.
