Black Heart

The silence is ear shattering
I’m trying to fight the urge.
The blackened, burnt walls are glaring at me,
Through the eyes filled with furious
anger and scorching hatred.
Yet, they are my one companion,
And, I’d hate to watch them leave,
But, in a way, they’re just like me.
Just like them, I’m slowly crumbling.
I’m just as curious as they are.
Wondering aloud, “when will we finally fall to
  the ground,
And, turn to a pile of ashes.”
But, all the while, I don’t make a sound.
And, eventually, the inevitable question
Crawls to a halt on my salty tasting lips.
Of course, the words never escape
from the screams of my mind.
But we both know what the question  is.
Neither of us saying a word,
Only staring at each other.
And, as another unwelcome tear creeps slowly
down my cheek, as another burning is engraved
  on your surface.
We realize the answer to the question
before we even know what’s happening to us.
Life has kissed us goodbye for the last time.
You and me; Black and I.
The question appears on the fringes of my mind:
‘Which one of us will fall first?’
Then, without warning,
  you speak,

“We fall together...
    And rest forever...
I won’t leave you behind...
    Now, close your eyes...
And silence your mind...”
