Cumulative Love

Two wisps
Of clouds met
Midair,
Shifting and flowing
Into one.
“Let’s stay together,” said one.
“Forever,” proclaimed the other.
Then the winds
Changed
And they slid apart
Without so much as
Goodbye,
But with each carrying away
A piece
Of the other,
As if it had belonged there
All the time.
