For Robin

I had a dream last night
That I was five years old.
A genie came to me
Told me he had finally been released.
Be free, Genie.
Be free.

I woke up this morning
To hear that Mr Keating had retired.
He had walked out the classroom
Smiling at the scuffed shoe marks on the desks.
Carpe Diem, Mr Keating.
Carpe Diem.

A friend text me this afternoon
Told me that Sean had passed away
A tear goes down a young man’s cheek
A thousand thank you’s on his lips
It wasn’t your fault, Sean
It wasn’t your fault

I people watch for some time.
I see new worlds.
I see a childhood.
I see an adulthood.
I see a pirate.
A president [or two]
A suspicious looking old woman
A middle-aged man wearing a ten year olds smile
A professor
A penguin
A doctor
A stand-up comedian
An alien who gives me a wink
A father
A man wearing headphones
Good moooorrrrrrrniiiiing Vietnaaaaaam!

I see a lot of people...
Yet I don’t see you.

Or your hurt.
Or your pain.
You were too good.
Too talented.

It wasn’t your fault
Carpe Diem
Be free.
