The Night Before Break-Up

To anybody who is/has been/wants to be a TA

Twas the night before break-up and the TA poured the wine,
Knowing that  this time tomorrow all would be fine,
The students all mentored, the books double ticked,
All anxiously awaiting a visit from good old St Nick.

A pat on the head and an encouraging smile,
This would hopefully last the students a while
Juggling a dozen jobs but still fully attentive
Helping the kid make every piece of work creative.

When all of a sudden, oh what a clatter!
We turned to our Government to see what was the matter
Turns out somebody has taken over our school
Mr Gove the Powerful and ever so cool.

You see we needed to feel so loved and needed
Yet what we got was to feel misled and cheated
Yet we still arrive each day with a smile
To ensure our kids are not brought down by an imbesiel

Mr Gove can’t you see how tired we are?
Surely not, you are watching from miles afar
Oh, how the TA heart breaks
When we are brushed aside as nothing more than a mistake

Yet still we work on,  committed as ever
A* for intelligence, energy and effort
Mr Gove you will not bring us down anymore
It’s for our students, not you, that we work so hard for.

So pour another glass and try to smile
The New Year may be nothing but tough for  a while
Single status has reared its ugly head
No visions of sugar plums as we  lay down in bed.

My fellow TA, times are so tough
The times will be good, times will be rough
So for now, lets stop and delay this fight,
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
