what you may or may not know about hope
Hope is not some delicate
pretty emotion.
Nor the graceful character
you’ve read in all the poems.
It is not
the dreamers crutch
or an excuse to not face the shitty
reality of a circumstance.
Hope is raw and daring.
It’s a scarred warrior.
It’s the courage to force your muscles
to smile until you
choke on your tears
and erase the heat in your eyes
with relentless
effort
with the relentless
strength of a war
to make all odds turn themselves in
to lies
and change everything the world is telling you
is going to happen.
To say this is what I want
no matter what thorns you have to pull out
when it’s over,
because then you’ve beaten the odds.
Because then hope slayed tradgedy.
Hope is a hero.
