I Survived

Touched by a monster

You had me pinned down
You took all the words out of my mouth
Tears ran down my face
Blows thrown out of place
It didn’t matter what I said
Your price had to be paid

They say he’ll reap what he sows
Why am I the one begging for mercy

You had to feel the fight leave my being
Revelled in the hope disintegrating in my eyes
The bile rising within me
Served to fuel your degenerate mind
Broken and bruised
You left me in the gutter for no one to find

If he is the criminal
Why am I the one pleading guilty

As I was lying there
Enshrouded by self-hatred
Beseeching God to let me die
I slowly realized, not a day sooner
I had been touched by a monster
And I survived

My strength does not dwell in my body
My strength lies in my spirit
