Red Hawk

"Hunting hawks did not belong in cages, no matter how much a man coveted their grace, no matter how golden the bars. They were far more beautiful soaring free. Heartbreakingly beautiful."
~Lois McMaster Bujold

Up high the red hawk hovered
O’er the lush virgin forest
Keen piercing eyes surveilling
Hunting live prey for her nest

Under the green canopy
Creatures scurried tried the best
Out of sight invisible
There’s hope in everyone’s breast

Splendid morning sapphire sky
Nary a cloud east to west
Warm sunshine heav’nly feeling
To a tired soul blessed rest

Hunter and prey; happy, sad
Dual nature, good and bad

Nature is both benevolent and cruel - a dichotomy that I try to write about.
