Infinite Suspense

Written on a very special bridge.

The fall is less frightening
Than the ledge upon which I stand

To fly like a bird is freedom
To stand like a monolith to pain is imprisonment

The water looks so calm below
Whereas above there is nothing but chaos

The cars drive by
In a whirlwind of confusion

The trees blossom in greens, and oranges, and yellows too
The buildings fume their infernal smoke into the air

The sweet Spring air assaults my nose
I take it in, for it’s to be my last breath

The fall is peaceful, an ending
Whereas the ledge is infinite suspense.
