One, Of Many, Lonely Night(s)

Dim, grim, dark nights
For thoughts to grow
And darken even further still
Sad, twisted, angry thoughts
Swirl in the blackness that
Whispers, oh so softly, in my ears
Shadowy wraiths glide gracefully
Across my vision
Just out of reach
Long-forgotten dreams?
Or newly arriving nightmares?
It is a crushing weight
That squeezes far too tightly
Not the embrace for which I yearn
It is like drowning
And yet there is no water nearby
Stifling my silent screams
In a dreary monotony
The daily routine
Seems far too tiring
And everything else is even worse
When dim, grim, dark nights
Close in
Hold them tighter still
For they are the only solace for many
Who are far too alone
In this world full of people.
