Water and Fire

To those who may remember.

I am drowning
In fire
And burning
In water.

The fire embraces me in a cold whisper
And the water smothers me in a boiling roar
The fire runs, liquid down my arms
The water scorches my legs
The pain brings tears to my eyes
Or are they tears of happiness?
They drink the fire
And cook in the water
They burn themselves
And drown themselves
And still no one listens
No one is listening to me

I am drowning
And I am burning
But neither fire
Nor water

Are the cause
I leave it up to you
To remember why
I am drowning in the fire
And burning in the water
The warm water beckons
And the cool flame grows closer
An embrace or a smothering grace?

Who decides?
