Mai's Poem
To my loving friend Mai, of course, because she asked for a poem to see what it would say...
You know the girl in the corner?
Always the same beautiful girl.
Yet she doesn’t seem to know.
She doesn’t seem to know
that she could kill someone with her looks
She doesn’t seem to know
that she is filled to the seams with beauty
She doesn’t seem to know
that it’s okay to be happy–
without making everyone else happy also
She doesn’t seem to know
that she’s allowed to love herself–
& still have room to love many others
She doesn’t seem to know these things...
But she does seem to know
how to go out of her way for anyone she loves
She does seem to know
how to make you smile on your worst day
She does seem to know
words of advice & wisdom you would never guess
& she does seem to know
if I may lighten the tone briefly; how to dress
But there is ONE thing that “Girl-You-Know-In-The-Corner-Who-Is-So-Beautiful-Her-Looks-Could-Kill” I wish knew.
I wish she knew
how much she is truly deserving of.
