The Darkest Hour

Her back could only bend so much...
'neath him she braved the peril.
Attached to the barrel
Her grasp to such.

Strength wavered,
They soon faltered,
The weakening arms
To prevent the harm.

Quivering voice, she called for help,
Horrified and crippled as she wept.

She glanced at his face,
There was full of rage,
Over her head and now she braced.
She prayed, free him not out of that cage.

Seconds, minutes seemed eternity
Brought forth a support, she waited endlessly
Repeated questions that must be answered,
Trudging the driveway as he surrendered.

Sigh of relief, for now, they came to alter.
She thought...Will this make things any better?
