When I became a man

When I became a man
I gained my own mind
I wouldn’t allow this wrongful mold of a society to shape me

When I became a man
I saw things differently
I looked through eyes that weren’t obstructed
I saw depictions of things not only wrong
but abhorrent

When I became a man
I learned to say no
No to drugs
No to deceit

When I became a man
I took on a different role
I became the model
No not Abercrombie-and-Fitch
But for a life of love for each other
But rather acceptance of differences

When I became a man
I gave up myself
In order to truly find myself

I let go of everything that I felt had meaning
And I said “give my life meaning”
A purpose
Something to live for
To strive for
Something to help form me into a man
