Charting the Heart

Look beyond these words
And address the in-between
Here lies a rest assured
With conscience squeaky clean

When you gave me your shelter
And let me so quietly sleep
The moment was set in stone
Forever carved inside of me

So across a deepening sea
And over barren land traverse
Donning weary blistered feet
Or ship most wholly submersed

  —I stay the course

If not by blackened wing of flight
Then on captured feral horse
With the sinking land in sight
From under rising water rose

—The lies of all who love,
to drown the ones who hope.
