My Darker Shades of Blue

By J Ann Crowder

Bring ropes,
                   hang me on a gallows

STRING ME UP!

For within a feeble prison I am entrapped by a catatonic state engulfing me like endless skies with—darker shades of blue

I am being forced downwards, by a hand not my own, consumed and set aghast by my own ghostly projection

’Tis a state of battle

WAR, I declare!

Upon mine own invisibilities of inner soul, dejected

To this end I perish or become, UNHINGED!

These,
       ARE,
           MY,
              'darker shades of blue’

Thus, dappled in ink and kissed by midnight blackness

’Tis lusterless in hue, as opalescence—my darker shades

Haunting me from within the dark caverns of my mind, like black holes of deeper oceans—darker shades of blue

Still, I wage war by my soul's ever engrossing plight

I reach for soft hues of heather beneath dayglo shimmers

Soon gallows become lost nightmares as I wake on snowy pillows, walking woodlands and gardens, gleaning upon a gentle chirping of Song Thrushes

At last, resting my soul upon new shades of teal sky

Written May 20th, 2016. This describes a battle with depression. It's real, and I dedicate this to those who suffer from it.
