DAWN

By J Ann Crowder

Today was dawn as chirping birds pranced on edges of bird feeders, pecking seeds

Yellow, blue, and corn husked in color—quick to flee upon approaching humans

Their’s was a fast and fleeting beauty whilst singing songs of dawn—clusters of blooming roses leaving too soon

Today was dawn as butterflies skirted across lakes of wild flora and mountains arose at the bow of a sun’s visaged gleam

Shadows slowly became erased by his fire and eyes gently opened upon water glistening beneath his tassels streaming

Today was dawn as I listened to earth’s song—her beating rhythm; ocean drums breathing inwardly

An effortless song—alive in her breath

Like a silhouette of numberless strings connected to one beating heart

Like a unison of endless canvases, creating one masterpiece

Today was dawn as I existed on her plane, touched by the same sun lighting her tapestry

Today was dawn as I arose with her beauty and song, sharing her magical breath

Alas, I faded into her dreams thus dreaming beneath her painted oasis of infinite, changing skies
