Metaphors for Joy

J Ann Crowder

I was told while feeling sad, “turn life into a metaphor”

My heart ponders metaphors, for joy

It reaches towards Mother Nature and I become something more transparent

My heart becomes the germinating seed and my mind an ocean of depths unknown

My soul is merely a locked door waiting to be opened

The key is the universe

My body is infinity

I see no beginnings or endings to my being

As I cling to nature’s solace and create metaphors

I adore nature’s gift

Now—I imagine my existence woven into her magic threads

Now—my soul can breath

I,
am something more than drifting particles in hot sand storms

I,
 am the painted desert
