My Glass Slipper Story

By J Ann Crowder

My daughter says, "mommy write me a story about a glass slipper.”  I sigh, “my sweatheart, that story has already been written.”

I pondered for a while, on writing a glass slipper story all my own.

But I paused within the realization: my baby girl wanted me to write a glass slipper story more than all my own.

She wanted me to write a glass slipper story all for her.

I pictured her sweet cerulean eyes gazing at life with so many wonders and heartfelt wishes.

She wants to be the girl with the glass slipper who gets to ride on magic dreams wrapped in the granting wishes of fairy godmothers.

In this story all her little heart's wishes come true.

She wants to be beautiful in a blue gown with sparkles, dazzling those around her.

If I were to write a glass slipper story all for her, I couldn’t find enough paper to fill with her every wish and desire.

Maybe I could simply tell her glass slipper stories never end?

Sometimes our dreams change and grow into something new.  Sometimes happy endings don’t last. This because true happiness is constantly lost then found.

I want her to emulate the kindness of the girl in the glass slipper and to believe dreams “really do come true.”

I want her to be positive in the face of ugly hearted souls while trying her best to seek after goodness.

Above all, I want her to know that one storm will not be her last and neither will one happy ending.

You see, we never saw the rest of the girl in the glass slipper’s story.

Did she have children?  Was there varying degrees of pain and loss throughout her life?  Was her journey yet without trial and struggle?

Undoubtedly she was happy, this is true. But there was more.

I want my daughter to know this was not yet an ending to her fairytale. I want my daughter to know there was much more to come.

This, because life is filled with happy endings.

I would tell my daughter she will meet many fairytales with many happy endings. I will teach her to be kind to others and true to herself, like the girl in the glass slipper was.

Last of all, I will teach her to face the wicked hearts of the world and endure many storms.

And despite all this I would tell her, "do not forget " how each fairytale within "your" life may end.

And this would be the embodiment of my glass slipper story.  I'd write it all for her.

I love the Disney classic story of "Cinderella." My daughter has grown to love it too. This became some thoughts I rambled in my head after she asked me to write a glass slipper story. Written April 16, 2016.
