Wintry Night

By J Ann Crowder

Nor’easter stars weave a warm duvet over ice-kissed earth

Gale winds curl, sketching garlands of heaping snow at my windowsill

A pale gust of steely blue awakens silvery nights

Wintry trees outstretch their lanky, leafless arms across a beryl dusk

Silent shadows stiffen and petrify amidst rimy dew

Upon an opaline hemisphere awakens an enchanted, glacial utopia

Magical, orphic whimsies are born

Flaxen fairies dip their frosted wings in sweetest, sacred light

A snow owl’s fleecy, feathered coat glows beneath an algid, spiced moon

All is a quixotic, mystic dance

Alas, my dreams are ever nestled within a crowning, winter solstice’s parading apogee

Written November 27th, 2016. Because I love winter.
