Dystopian Reality

We live in a time
In which no light is left to shine
That which ascends
Is always quick to decline

Fortune with destitution
Far too tightly intertwined
No good and bad
Only yours and soon-to-be mine

Greed and vanity
Pushes off the bonds of humankind
Forgotten hope
Faded letters on a sign

Happiness
Ever harder to define
A dusty relic
Hopelessly enshrined
In the darkest corners
Of our collective mind
