Friends with Stephen Fry

A fabulous dinner party

If I were friends with Stephen Fry,
I’d have him round with pals for pie.
He could bring his hubby, as you should,
I’d sit him next to Victoria Wood.
I’d invite Alan Rickman, I do as a rule.
With his wonderful voice from the Linklater school.

With quality at the front of my mind,
I’d serve Pol Roger, it’s my favourite kind.
Entrés of smoked salmon and cocktail crab claws,
Interspersed with good humour to loosen our jaws.
Tasman scallop pie, from the hemisphere south,
All curried and creamy and melt in the mouth.

Lightly buttered potatoes, asparagus, beans,
But leave room for a pudding, enough of the greens.
A fruity pavlova and finish with cheese,
With honey and figs and crackers to please.
Some beautiful chocolates high in cocoa and fine,
And lashings and lashings and lashings of wine.

With Alison Moyet, my friends Jan and Mel,
And to even it up French and Saunders as well.
We’d break some rules, yet stay polite.
We’d pass the port, but to the right!
But most of all I quite forgot,
We’d relax and have fun and laugh,
A lot!
