Walking River

River is always changing,
with a crack coming out of the cliffs
the river from the cliffs,
down to the beach,
carved out in an alcove,
is your safe place.
A place where you can’t be seen,
by those you don’t want to see you.

School is always changing,
with cracks coming from the workload.
The school in the ghetto,
encircling privilege,
makes safe places urgent,
to hide your face
from those who can’t understand,
and you stay
because you are the safe place,
for others.

A walking, beautiful river,
always changing,
with cracks coming out
from the jagged cliffs of your pain,
tears upon all of your work,
fighting for your place in danger.
A safe place for you,
A walking, safe river for others.
