Blue skin and melancholy souls

Our lungs are pounding against our chests,
so loud that
the people around us thought it was our hearts
but darling I’m just trying my best to breathe
when I’m around you.
I felt so desperate to hold you
as the sun trickled down your spine
while you lay beneath the vast sky
It’s hands grabbing hold of your paper thin wrists.
We lay inside the earth together
our skin painted blue
our souls bleeding out melancholy
my heart so heavy inside of me
our breath weighing us down
as if the world was sleeping above our shoulders
as I whispered to the setting stars
how I wished that I could touch your skin;
how I wished you could be mine.
