fumes of absence

My body lay still and lifeless on my unmade bed on that heavy Wednesday night. My mind lost and my tongue paralyzed, the puffs of cigarette smoke that smelled of your name and cheap cologne curled around my nose and bled into my skin. My eyes were dazzled and my heart beat tipsy, from having the vanilla moon staring back at me. Soaked in twilight it hid behind nightfall, and it’s radiance burned a hole right through my core. I woke on a foggy Thursday after dreaming of the rain, and I breathed out all the words you told me in my sleep.
