Thirteen years
I’ve lived with you in my body,

thirteen years
you’ve grown inside my bones like flowers,
and made a garden of stars inside my soul.
Your emanation filling the cracks in me,
like a guardian angel flying beside me.
Thirteen years
I’ve listened to your voice,
by now it’s become my own.
I’ve spent the past seven months swallowing every part of you I have left,
so when you’re gone
I can still feel you
inside of me.
Your air is between my collarbones,
it’s inside my lungs
and beneath my fingernails.
I’ve spent the past seven months becoming you,

So that I’ll carry you with me wherever I am;
So that while you’re gone I won’t forget your name,

So that I will never let you go.
