The Green Pines

When the oaks turned red
When the maples turned yellow,
And the willows almost fall asleep for the long winter nights,
I saw the pines with their cones on their crowns,
Still green and swaying in the breeze,

When asked the reason why,
The pines smiled at me and whispered,
“It is the nature of true love,
Which the sun can’t bleach,
And the rains can’t wash,
The winds can’t blow,
And the snow can’t cover,
It is the colour that lasts forever….”.
